Resin & Photo-Etched Conversion Set
This kit converts your Fw 190 A in special Bomberpulkzerstörer Fw 190 A-8 with single, backward-firing grenade launcher W.Gr 21 cm "Krebsgeraet" (roughly translated to grab device or unit)
As a result of experiences with the forward firing WGr 21 Grenades and their weaknesses for determining the correct detonation time, Senior Staff Engineer Reyle made the proposal in early 1944 of backwards firing WGr. 21. For this purpose, static tests began with one under the fuselage and two under-wing mounted WGr 21´s. These caused heavy damages on the trailing edges of the wings from the exhaust jet and had been removed later.
In early 1944, a view Fw 190 A-8 of the 12./JG 3 had been fitted with the now called "Krebsgerät" (crab device). Later in May 1944, the 3./JGr 10 and the end of 1944 II / JG 300 followed. The grenade was atomatically launched when the plane overflew the enemy bomber while frontal attack and detonated only 1.5 to 2
seconds after launch. That means the sum of the opposite speeds was almost zero.Test firings were reported as successful, while in the pilots in combat reported aiming as nearly impossible.
